NanaZip Review
NanaZip is an easy-to-use file compression and archiving software solution, designed to help users to save storage space on their computer and share files easily and quickly. It offers customizable compression levels, as well as a file preview feature and multi-core CPU support to speed up processing times.
This free archiving software download for Windows 11 enables users to compress files and entire directories, and can password protect archives. The software also allows users to rename and delete archives. It can be used to compress a wide range of file formats, including ZIP, RAR and 7Z. NanaZip is built on XAML Islands and features a modern user interface.
To test the performance of each archiving software, benchmark input data is compressed to a ZIP archive using 7-Zip, then copied to an external USB3 4TB 5400 RPM mechanical HDD and extracted by each application; the extraction test takes into account the time for decompression and moving the file to its final position on the external disk/partition. The performance tests are repeated 10 times, with the average value being taken.
The Reg FOSS desk notes that, unlike the other open-source 7-Zip derivatives tested here, NanaZip does not use Git source code management, which is perhaps one reason why it can't claim to be as fast as its competitors. But "Paul" points out that it may also be a security risk, as it has been known to include vulnerable libraries in the past (as discussed on HackerNews). If you want to avoid this risk, try another 7-Zip fork, such as FreePascal-based PeaZip.
